I was taking pictures of pets with Santa at Muddpuppies on Saturday, so I missed all the excitement! We had a big litter of kittens go home during the week plus a few dogs! Then on Saturday 4 dogs went home too as well as more kitties!
Dogs: Colt, Bear, Ellie, Kimber, Asia, Shirley, Nicky, Kirby/Buddy,
Cats: Miley, Simon, Spice, Gizmo, Shalimar, Stetson, Smokey, Fendi, Punkin, Safari, Curious & Wicked
Colt & Kimber: adorable beagle mix puppies with a super cute photo on our website!
Bear: great pyrenes/golden mix, so fluffy!
Ellie: border collie mix
Asia: puggle
Shirley: lab/beagle mix that has been in foster care for almost a year! She was unavailable for a short time due to some minor medical problems that we took care of, but she went to so many adoption events only to get passed over!
Nicky: westie mix
Kirby/Buddy: puggle that was returned and knew his new name of "Buddy" but we all knew him by Kirby
Miley: gray tuxedo kitten, going on 7-months-old. She had an ulcer on her corea, so a lot of people passed her over because she wasn't perfect. She got a new mommy who overlooked a little scar and knew there was a lot of love behind those eyes!
Simon: brown tabby with white paws, no one knows why it took him this long to find a new home - he was returned and still under a year old and so very sweet!
Gizmo: siamese mix kitten
Spice: torbie kitten
Shalimar, Stetson, Fendi, Curious & Wicked: all part of our perfume litter that went very fast as they should've! All cuties!
Smokey: gray spotted classic tabby on white kitten
Safari: gray tabby kitten
Punkin: the big surprise happy ending for the week! She's been adopted out a couple of times and returned and doesn't show her true personality at PetSmart, hopefully the 3rd time is the charm on this sweet kitty!
I bet you didn't know that Skittles made a new line of flavors? Well I didn't until halloween came along. While digging through my bucket of goodies I noticed a brown bag with the word Skittles written on it. I was like "wtf is this?". To my surprise it was desert style Skittles.
You ever saw the original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory with Gene Wilder? That's one of my fave movies btw. Anyway, remember the part where they're licking the walls and Mr. Wonka goes "the shnozberries taste like shnozberries" and one of the father's say "shnozberries, what in the hell is a shnozberry"? LOL. Love that movie. Anyway, the flavors in this packet is vanilla, s'mores (ou can actually taste the graham cracker, chocolate caramel, chocolate pudding, and brownie batter (you'd swear it was). The thing is that there is no chocolate in any of these. Yah, I thought it was like an M-n-M but it isn't. Do me a favor and buy a pack from your local store and I bet you'll be surprised too.
I have 2 more exams left - the finals...and they are accumulative! Gah!
I work a lot this week. I work doubles Thurs, Fri, and Sat So 6 shifts in 3 days.....good money though ^_^
I have been writing a lot, I have had a lot of emotions that have needed to get out. I was very emotional yesterday. I feel a little bit better today. But all of this writing has really started to break my writers block. Though my confidence in writing is still short of returning.
Well, I have to get going. Lots of errands to do today!
Add me to your twitter if you have one. I love that thing ^_^

They say we Capricorns possess (symbolically, in most cases) the body of a goat and the tail of a fish. I’ve been further informed by people who concern themselves with this sort of thing that the reason for such a perverse union is that we are equally adept at reaching great heights and achieving astonishing lows. So, either the Capricorn crowd can be readily divided into natural winners and born losers or we’re all a bunch of conflicted, vacillating workaholics. I find it propitious and comforting to align with the latter option*.
To that end, I’d like to make it clear that:
1. My delay in sending out stickers is Zazzle’s fault; not mine.
2. My delay in responding to your e-mails and PMs is my fault; not yours.
3. My delay in posting something new to read is the result of an unforgiving words-to-minutes ratio.
4. My delay in leaving comments at your VOX blogs is the result of an unforgiving spammer-to-authenticator ratio. (Seriously, VOX: Do something about the spamdexers already, will ya!?)
One can only go so high without wings and diving too deeply is hard on a goat’s sinuses, so I’ve sort of been going sideways lately. Thanks for hanging on! I'll find a new foothold very soon...
*Of course, how I feel about my inability to fellate myself or even fart on command suggests that perhaps "great heights" and "astonishing lows" are merely matters of perspective.
Show us something with wheels.
Well, this certainly isn't even close to the kind of picture I was looking for, but hey, it must have appeared in my search for a reason, right? And that reason was to crop the nice lady, who was standing by the sign, out of the picture, and present it to you as a rather interesting sign find. Has anyone ever actually seen this sign anywhere? I'm still shaking my head over it, but kind of laughing, too. My favourite part is the question mark by the head.

I have here Ed Ackerson's Ackerson2 album in my frozen fingers, I don't think there is an official release date, other than that it's already available for purchase. Incidentally, if you don't know who Ackerson is, he is probably best known for being the singer/founder of Polara.

Sleeper and Polara ♥ Whiskey A-Go-Go, Los Angeles (29 Apr 1995) |
Polara opened up for Sleeper, I didn't know who they were back then, but my friends were all savvy to them. It was 90s alternative rock and from this set, they threw a Polara T-Shirt into the crowd and my friend Shawn ended up grabbing it.
So, that's how I was introduced to Polara.
I can't say I have followed them that closely through the years, I am happy to see that they recently released Beekeeping, so be sure to check out Andrew's review.
As the '2' on Ackerson2 indicate, this is Ackerson's second solo album. While, I don't have his earlier album for reference, I can tell you that it's somewhat of a departure from Polara. I get the impression that Ackerson have a lot of songs and demos in his head, and they don't necessary fit in Polara's noisy rock music.
The one song that really sounded different is a banjo-driven song called "Run Away With Me". Maybe it's the banjo, or maybe it's the singing style, but it does bring up that folksy question.
Ackerson explains it:
"Go Ahead And Cry" is my favorite song on the album. It's a little upbeat, for the title and theme of the song, but I like it. I'll bet it should be fantastic live, especially with that banjo section. Which, shock, there will be a CD release party at the Varsity Theater on November 28th. Going there is now a pleasure as they have finally fixed that 35W bridge (it looks and drives much better now!).In a lot of ways this record is about me exploring my pre-noise roots, the influences at the beginning of my musical life before I got into more experimental stuff. Sixties stuff, like Beatles, Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel—the first material I learned to play on guitar. The tight harmony singing, odd juxtapositions of instruments, and playful production on records from that time is still very appealing to me.

Sometimes DJs/VJs release mashup tracks individually, and others create compilations, often where the tracks have common elements or a unifying theme. Mark Vidler, as the one-man Go Home Productions, released Spliced Krispies in May 2008 and I was very interested in the content. Not only had he created videos (in the manner I described above), but he also had chosen a lot of older material. I'm a very firm believer that mashups are not a passing fad and the music can be very accessible to everyone-- if only to show that history can very much repeat itself in the music business, especially in popular genres.
Mark Vidler is based in Watford, UK and produces remixes as well as mashups. His work extends into radio and television, such as XFM's 'The Remix' and 'Rinse' radio shows as well as projects with MTV Mash. His hit mashup "Rapture Riders" was included in Blondie's Greatest Hits on the EMI label, and his "Ray of Gob" mashup of Madonna and The Sex Pistols (featured on Pistol Whipped on Half Inch Recordings) has become quite notorious. (I've referenced the "Rapture Riders" video here. I was very surprised that for a time, an excerpt was featured on the Blondie official website.)
As I said before, Spliced Krispies features a lot of older tunes, and I think that's a very good thing. It gives both the younger and older generations a fresh perspective on some old favorites. As some mashups are, it sometimes takes a few listens to get used to the songs if you're very, very familiar with the original tunes. While it would be nice for Vidler to have some studio magic to make the tracks very clean and smooth-sounding (say, compared to Simon Iddol), I think he's worked very well with the material and likely the recordings that were available to him.
My favorite on the album was "3 X A Raindrop", which takes Burt Bacharach's "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head", and the Commodore's "Three Times A Lady". The video splices scenes from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, in which movie "Raindrops" was featured, with cuts of Lionel Ritchie singing the other song in a live performance.
"This one will probably piss-off the purists, I dunno. After acquiring the REM 'parts' I thought it would be funny to put them with something completely alien to their style. Don't get me wrong, I'm a massive fan of REM's early stuff. Chronic Town, Murmur and Reckoning [were] definitely brilliant...but to put them with something more disco or funk was the intention."
The album with mp3s and videos is available at the Mark Vidler // Go Home Productions site here.
