What would you attempt to do if you knew you wouldn't fail?
Submitted by Beautifully Broken
I would open up my own cafe. I'd employ all my snarky co-workers from Borders to work there. there would be a theme to the place.. and late night, we would have live music or poetry reading or some other creative things.
yeah, that's my dream. too bad it's not feasible. it's too competitive a market, especially here where everyone loves the Starbucks.
I hate:
- not having direction.
- not being able to move off the rock.
- people.
- cleaning.
- not hearing back from places I apply. they can at least say "we don't want you." instead, they just don't respond.
I love:
- not having to wake up real early. I'll enjoy it while I can.
- getting two weeks' vacation pay to cover my time of job hunting.
- how no one has yelled at me or called me stupid for losing my job. I already know it was stupid, but I'm over it. moving on now. (although I never directly told either of my brothers about losing my job and how it happened, so I guess there's still a chance I'll get yelled at for it)
- kitten is almost ready to come home with us.
- knowing the temp agencies I signed up with are confident in getting me a job because of my abilities and work experience.
- shuffleboard at Murphy's.
- how Mike has been encouraging me to take my time in searching for a good job.
If you had to give up one of your favorite foods, which one would it be?
if I had to give up one of my favorite foods, I think I'd be able to lose weight a whole lot faster than I am now.
I posted this image on JPG Magazine for their "Shoot From the Hip" photo contest. It's a contest of taking a picture without looking through the viewfinder.
What do you think?
... this asian pear is going to be devoured.
Nay:
- my lack of really good organizational skills. I can keep things organized, but it's not done very well. Organized chaos comes to mind. I know where things are, but I don't know if anyone else could find it with the way I have it.
- generic Post-Its. They suck. I prefer the Super Sticky Post-Its over any other... they actually stick and stay stuck.
- getting rejected by retail stores for which I apply. I have the experience, I work hard, I'm reliable... what else do they want? Sorry if I'm not cute enough; I don't do cute.
- finances. see a pattern yet?
- the holidays coming and I haven't been able to get finances in order yet! yuck. I want to start early, but I need that second job first.
Yay:
- interview today at 4:30pm. Blue Hawaii LifeStyle, a health store with an in-store café. I didn't really want to drive to town to work a part-time job, but if their coffee is as good a quality as they say, I may give it a shot.
- keeping pretty good with not spending so much money during the week. I have started to bring my own breakfast (Hot Pocket) and sometimes lunch, too. and if I don't have lunch with me, I tend to go to Costco or Subway or somewhere cheap. I have soups and such that I can have for lunch, too, so I will try to keep up with it. Xmas coming up... scares me.
- Know Your Camera 2 starts on Thursday. all this talk about trying to save money, and here I am spending $100 on a non-credit course. I don't care... it's teaching me new things that I have fun with.
- October is a three-paycheck month. We won't see the extra money this month, since the paychecks on October 31st will go to rent for November, but the extra paychecks will show a bit later. That'll be nice, and will definitely help with Xmas. I think. maybe my calculations are off, but in any case, the extra paychecks are this month.
- Honolulu Community Concert Band 35th Anniversary Concert this Sunday, October 26. I like performing, and I also like not having to feel the pressure of preparing for the concert. I'll be glad when it's all over.
What misconception about the place you live bothers you the most?

It either has to be:
- People think we haven't as advanced technology as the rest of the world. Ohhhh no... you live on an island. You must not have easy access to the internet.
- People think we are not a state of the United States of America. I was at a college basketball game in Fresno, and these (moron) ladies behind us said, "We love your country!" Yeah... you live in "our country." morons.
- (from Kristie) People think just because you live in Hawai'i makes you Hawaiian. "Well, if you live in Texas, you become a Texan, right?" Ohhhhhh no... it doesn't work the same here. Hawaiians are a people, and it is a culture. You start claiming you're Hawaiian and you could get the shit beat out of you.
So, I had a foot-long meatball sub from Subway yesterday for lunch. I only ate half of it, so I put the other half in the fridge and had it for breakfast this morning. The bread cut up the roof of my mouth, the area right behind my top front teeth.
I made it even worse when I bit into an asian pear. it's now a small raw section... sucks. I have to eat the pear in tiny little bites, trying to avoid hurting my mouth even more.
Ever tried biting into a fruit with your bottom teeth instead of the top? It's frustrating, I tell you.
With all the crappy news going on right now (job hunting, politics, economy, etc.), I thought I'd post something happier.
This is the kitten we are planning to adopt when she gets old enough. Bekah (the foster mom) calls her Smokey, for now. Can't think of any other name yet.
There's another female kitten, but she looks too much like Puka and Mike doesn't want to go there. They're about 3 or 4 weeks right now, so another 4 weeks or so to go.
