I missed Tuesday again. oh well, here goes.
だいきらい
- being told, "We're going to switch the work hours from 8am-4:30pm to 7am-3:30pm." Sure, that makes sense since the construction world normally starts at 7am, if not 6am... but still, that means waking up earlier, which means going to sleep earlier, which means less time spent with Mike.
- having DVDs that can't be "backed up". You know what I mean.
- not being able to turn down curry. If there is curry in the pot, I will eat some. and I'll probably end up eating more. and more. it tastes too good to pass up, but it's not good for wanting to keep the weight down.
- fleas. and other biting insects. I think we have fleas, and the PetMeds haven't come in yet.
だいすき
- being one step closer to having a secure job. maybe. do I want to go from one boring job to another?
- going to the movies with Mike. We went with Nick and his sister Emily to see Hellboy II: The Golden Army. It was a great movie. Beautiful, like all del Toro films.
- lunch time. I can get out of the office for a break!
- cheese. because it tastes so good... especially on pizza for lunch.
- my dad's approval to play a different instrument for gagaku. My main instrument is the shō (mouth pipe organ), and he usually makes me play that instrument. Now, I think there are enough shō players strong enough that they don't need my help. So now, I get to play ryūteki (bamboo "dragon" flute) and komabue (Korean flute).
- new toys to tinker with. Nick let me borrow his Sony Cybershot DSC-F828. Digital Still Camera. Not really meant for action shots, but it will be fun to toy with, especially for macro shots.
- preparing to organize my photos and negatives. I bought some plastic sheets to store my negatives and also CDs with digital photos. It might take a while, but I really need to do it. I gotta take some time to look over old photos, even ones from when I was a kid.
- did I mention going to see Hellboy? Yeah, I liked it.
- having parties at our house. I don't like having to clean up for it, but I like the end result of the cleaning and hanging out with friends.
I Loathe:
- hot weather. especially with the sun shining bright... that's the worst. Currently, it's in the mid-80s, but at least it's cloudy.
- waking up late. I'm trying very hard to get to work on time, but it's not working out.
- unpredictable traffic. This does not help the waking up late thing. This morning, there was a 5-car accident that backed up traffic for a good 12 miles, and that traffic lingers for a quite a while. What normally takes me 20 minutes to get to work took me 1 hour. It's been worse.
- gas prices. My car is a 1997, so I use premium gas, which the cheapest I've seen today was $4.189/gal. Just last week was the first time I had seen the price of gas change IN THE SAME DAY. This is madness.
- bills. They never end!
- feeling stuck/trapped.
I Love:
- Rock Band parties! I hope everyone enjoyed themselves. I actually have evidence of a party this time.
Last time, I didn't really have a chance to take many pictures. - making people feel happy. We made a little birthday party for Mary (joint with the Rock Band party), and she was happy.
- narcoleptic kitty. Puka is so active, running around and attacking everything that moves, so when she gets tired... she just passes out. it's funny.
- feeling like I'm accomplishing something. The Hawaii Gagaku Society is having their 40th anniversary this year, and the 40th anniversary concert is in August. We have special guests coming from Japan, the Nihon Gagaku-kai (Japan Gagaku Society). Each time they come here, they always pay for all their expenses. This time, we are trying to raise funds to help pay for their transportation and entertainment. I'm in charge of the Swap Meet Sale, which is our first big fund raiser project. With that said, if anyone (in Hawai'i) has items they wish to donate to us, let me know and I'll gladly pick it up from you (so long as it isn't too bulky).
- having a clean house. It won't last for long, because we're lazy and we tend to leave things lying around... but it's nice when it is clean.
- my new Kyocera ceramic santoku knife. it works really nicely. I haven't had a sharp knife in a long time.
- vegetables. especially when they are grilled with Korean barbecue sauce.
- sleeping.
I Loathe:
- poor spelling/grammar/punctuation/etc. it's one of my biggest pet peeves. I'm also not very fond of the txt talk... the UR 4 ME O RLY 2NITE. if you get text messages from me, they will almost always be full words, no abbreviations or acronyms (although some chat acronyms and abbreviations I do use...). I can get annoying like that.
- veterinarian prices. I'm going to take the "Boo Boo" to see the vet later today, and I KNOW they are going to charge me a kidney for the visit. since she MIGHT have worms, and they aren't sure yet, the vet tech was already talking about "we'll do some tests, and then send it up to the mainland for more tests..." blah blah blah... yeah, I'll have to hold off on larger purchases for now.
- having to get to work earlier than usual. The owner of the company said, "we'll come down there sometime soon to check up on things and see what we can do to help and improve." He didn't say WHEN exactly... so he could appear at any time this week or next. Need to make sure we're all here from the beginning of our Hours of Operations.
- having to teach "Boo Boo" to use the litter box.
She pees in there, but she doesn't always poop in there. She tends to
poop under the table in the kitchen, hidden away. Maybe that's where
she went at the foster house... the foster lady should've already
taken care of this litter box problem. I've never had to teach a
kitten where or how to poop, so I have no idea what to do. I hope she
starts understanding it on her own.
- waiting. I hate
waiting in all its forms. I hate waiting for a vacation to start, hate
waiting to find out what happens to Doctor Who in the next episode,
hate wondering whether I'll get the full stimulus package amount (I
know they have a calculator, but I keep forgetting to pull up my tax
info at home and checking it), hate waiting for the work day to end,
etc.
I Love:
- taking silly photos of kitty. She's such cute little thing. Everytime she's in a cute position, I want to take a picture. There have been a couple of times when Mike has caught her trying to eat Bela's food. Bela's food is bigger than she is, and she's trying to eat it! I haven't seen it yet, or else there would be a photo of it.
- having a nice barbecue birthday party for friends. Kristie's birthday party at Kaka'ako Beach Park was really nice. I'm glad she liked her gifts.
- Netflix. I rent movies AND can view certain movies online. I watched the first season of Dexter, which I enjoyed. Quite a good storyline, for an American series.
- getting approval for a somewhat large purchase. I asked Mike if I could buy a new knife, specifically a Kyocera HIP (Hot Isostatic Pressed) ceramic Santoku knife. it's a high density ceramic blade with a damascus-like design on it. Ceramic blades won't brown vegetables and fruits, and stay sharper for much longer than steel. I'm also going to order the ceramic peeler they have. I'm going to wait for payday next week (or if we get our stimulus package on the 9th?) before making this purchase.
- watching kittens practice their pouncing. You know what I mean? When they crouch down low, shake their butt, and then dash over to what they want to pounce. it's hilarious.
- salsa. not the dance, the food. yum.
I Loathe:
- being bored and having nothing to do. I need some inspiration, and it's not hitting me yet.
- not being able to go on a trip somewhere. There's just no way we can afford to go somewhere if we're going to take a two-week vacation to Japan next April. We have to save up for it, plus make sure all bills will be covered while we are gone. At least we will be going to Maui for a weekend, which is something.
- Sick fuckers.
- Voggy weather. It comes and goes. Yesterday was nice and clear. Today isn't as clear, but Saturday was THE WORST. In fact, I have photos and video of it. Post those later.
- looking for a recipe and finding nothing that is easy to work with. I just want a sun-dried tomato marinara... anyone have a simple recipe out there? the one that popped up first asks specifically for Trader Joe's sun-dried roma tomatoes. I can't get that here.
- knowing there are lots of things I hate, but not knowing what to post. I guess I don't hate them very strongly.
- people. now there's one I can count on!
I Love:
- having friends over at my place. I cooked hamburger curry on Thursday night and invited my friends to join me. They brought salad and rice (my rice pot is small, so I didn't want to have to cook three times in order to make sure there was enough rice for everyone.
- new family members. no, I'm not talking about being pregnant (not planning on that one for a year or two or more). I'm planning on adopting a kitten. There's a foster home for kitties down the street from where I live, and there's a cute little calico there. The foster lady calls her Boo Boo. I don't know if I will keep the name or not.
- gray weather. I don't like the voggy weather, but I like when the sun isn't out to burn me to death. it gets way too hot when the sun is out.
- having a really tasty lunch. I went to eat at Koto Restaurant in Waipahu, for some handmade udon. I'll post more about this one later.
- making shopping lists. it definitely helps me remember everything that I need to pick up. gonna need new cat items, especially.
- finding new items to purchase on eBay. My newest thing? I want to buy a Kyocera ceramic kitchen knife. I'm researching which one to get first. If I want the really nice one, I have to save up some moolah for it.
- placing an order from ThinkGeek.com, which should be arriving tomorrow. Yay fun things!
OK, I missed my Things on Tuesday post. I was going to wait until I finished doing my taxes, so it could be part of my list... but, sadly, it took too long doing my taxes (aka I'm lazy and put it off 'til late last night), so by the time I finished... it was time to go to bed.
I loathe:
- Doing taxes (here we go!). I thought TurboTax would be really easy. Well, it was somewhat easy, but it still took longer than I thought it would.
- Doing taxes, then come to find out I COULDN'T WRITE OFF MY EYE SURGERY. We filed jointly, and we make too much money together. Medical expenses have to be more than 7.5% of your Adjusted Gross Income in order to write it off. If I had filed separately, I might've been able to do it, but we did jointly. Now, I'm regretting not checking into filing separately. Damn it.
- Going to the gym and having a headache build while working out. I don't know what caused the headache I had on Monday night, but it made me stop. Maybe I was dehydrated? That might have been what it was. I cut my workout short by about 20 minutes.
- Not being able to sleep well. Maybe we need a new bed.
I love:
- Finally completing taxes. I was hoping for a better return this year, since we kept receipts (and I thought I would be able to write off medical expenses this year), but it still turned out to be a decent return.
- Tax Rebate 2008. Since the tax return didn't come out to more than what it did, at least we will have the tax rebate later on in the year.
- Photography. I finally scanned the negatives from my roll of expired 1967 black & white 3200 speed film. I used it to take photos at Cyn's wedding (March 1, 2008). I didn't post all the images yet (the negatives were scanned weird... I have to review it and perhaps re-scan them),
but I did upload this one. I adjusted the brightness and contrast a bit, so you can see it. The original is a little dark. I'd like to get a digital SLR some day, but until then, I will play around with my film SLR.
- Weekends. We celebrated Cyn's birthday this weekend. I had a lazy Sunday. It was all very nice.
It took a while, but it's finally done. I started drawing sketches of my friends a couple months ago. I took a break from it, but now it's finished. Yay.
I'm still not satisfied with the sketch of me (second from the right), but as most people say, self portraits are difficult. My eyes look a whole lot more Japanese in my sketch than they do on the real me.
If it continues to bug me, I'll try drawing a new one. I'm quite happy with the way all the other sketches turned out.
Feel free to comment on it! I love feedback!
Edit: OH YEAH... if you actually like what you see and you want me to draw something/someone for you, let me know. I'll do it for free, 'cuz it's just all in fun.
