I Loathe:
- hot weather. especially with the sun shining bright... that's the worst. Currently, it's in the mid-80s, but at least it's cloudy.
- waking up late. I'm trying very hard to get to work on time, but it's not working out.
- unpredictable traffic. This does not help the waking up late thing. This morning, there was a 5-car accident that backed up traffic for a good 12 miles, and that traffic lingers for a quite a while. What normally takes me 20 minutes to get to work took me 1 hour. It's been worse.
- gas prices. My car is a 1997, so I use premium gas, which the cheapest I've seen today was $4.189/gal. Just last week was the first time I had seen the price of gas change IN THE SAME DAY. This is madness.
- bills. They never end!
- feeling stuck/trapped.
I Love:
- Rock Band parties! I hope everyone enjoyed themselves. I actually have evidence of a party this time.
Last time, I didn't really have a chance to take many pictures. - making people feel happy. We made a little birthday party for Mary (joint with the Rock Band party), and she was happy.
- narcoleptic kitty. Puka is so active, running around and attacking everything that moves, so when she gets tired... she just passes out. it's funny.
- feeling like I'm accomplishing something. The Hawaii Gagaku Society is having their 40th anniversary this year, and the 40th anniversary concert is in August. We have special guests coming from Japan, the Nihon Gagaku-kai (Japan Gagaku Society). Each time they come here, they always pay for all their expenses. This time, we are trying to raise funds to help pay for their transportation and entertainment. I'm in charge of the Swap Meet Sale, which is our first big fund raiser project. With that said, if anyone (in Hawai'i) has items they wish to donate to us, let me know and I'll gladly pick it up from you (so long as it isn't too bulky).
- having a clean house. It won't last for long, because we're lazy and we tend to leave things lying around... but it's nice when it is clean.
- my new Kyocera ceramic santoku knife. it works really nicely. I haven't had a sharp knife in a long time.
- vegetables. especially when they are grilled with Korean barbecue sauce.
- sleeping.
Do police officers who monitor traffic EVER issue tickets to bus drivers? Hawai'i motorists, as a general whole (there are people who drive with a brain, but most people just don't know how), don't know how to drive. I have slowly started to realize this, as I try to be as safe a driver as I can. I used to speed a lot, but not so much anymore. I now realize that it isn't worth getting a ticket, just to get to the movie on time.
Back to my first question... bus drivers. Ever notice how bus drivers just force their way into the lane whether you like it or not. They make their way to the left lane, even if they are getting off two exits from now. They push their way through the traffic and sit in the left lane for about 50 yards... then push their way back across the lanes to exit the freeway.
I doubt the bus drivers realize that this action causes backup for everyone else. It may not be visible upfront, but it is a domino effect, and it lasts for a long time. We may not notice it, but it does effect us all. crazy thought, eh?
The other thing... if everyone just realize that tailing the person in front of you is not going to get you to your destination 3 seconds sooner. It just causes the traffic to get worse. Yes, tailing is the major cause of backups. When lanes merge, when you don't leave space, it causes the other lane to stall... chain reaction. Then, someone in the merging lane decides that they will merge whether you want them to or not... force their way into the lane, making you slam on your brakes, making the person who is a foot behind you slam on their brakes... another chain reaction that causes everyone to stop the flow of traffic.
Shoulder lanes are the stupidest thing ever. 90% of the people in that shoulder lane are not exiting where that lane ends, so they cause another merge, which causes the previously stated chain reaction.
People don't yield when there's a yield sign. People get impatient and honk their horn when you stop at a stop sign, even when there are no cars at the intersection. You hit a School Zone and try to stay at the speed limit of the zone, and people zoom around you. Oh yeah... and when people decide to go around you? Majority of the time they will zoom around you at the last second, leaving inches from your bumper... as they leave the lane and get back into the lane as well. And why the HELL do you have to get back into that same lane if the lane you just switched into is EMPTY? JUST TO GET IN FRONT OF ME? THE PERSON WHO WAS DELAYING YOUR ARRIVAL AT THE BAR WHERE ALL YOUR COUSINS ARE WAITING FOR YOU? ugh.
yeah, I think I'll stop before I cause myself a migraine.
and I'm actually reading. imagine that!
